Brief Overview

The most important context so far in Urkesh for the Akkadian period is the royal palace of Tupkish with its two courtyards and various rooms investigated by us, see BM 30.

While there are usually few vessels in our other Shapes category the ones from the palace area are interesting. One is a jar with a double V-shaped rim. A bowl with a high footed base is hollow inside. In the ED III period there are high footed bases but they are solid. Hollow high footed bases continue into the Ur III period. A small jar with double handles attached from the exterior of the rim to the upper part of the body must both served for a special purpose.

One vessel type in this category may have been either a stand or a jar with a rim slanted toward the interior, see here.
